Cantillon undertook the first demolition works at the Aylesbury Estate, in South East London.
Following extensive liaison with the local community, the disused Amersham Community Centre and Aylesbury Youth Centre was levelled ahead of a 15 year regeneration scheme.
Cantillon's £300,000 contract with the Mayor and Burgess of the London Borough of Southwark included full demolition, scaffold, hoardings and new permanent fencing and electrics.
Ahead of demolition starting, a launch day was held for the local residents and dignitaries to mark the start of, what was described by one resident as, "a wonderful but emotional event".
Local people were given a chance to visit the site, sit in the long reach machine and then watch as the first bricks of their estate's long awaiting redevelopment came tumbling down.
Cantillon's work was completed in December 2007. |
